Purpose: CAL FIRE’s Forest Health Program funds active restoration and reforestation activities aimed at providing for more resilient and sustained forests to ensure future existence of forests in California while also mitigating climate change, protecting communities from fire risk, strengthening rural economies and improving California’s water & air. Description: This Fiscal Year 2025-26 solicitation will include one grant type: • Forest Health Eligibility Requirements Eligible Applicants: Business Individual Nonprofit Public Agency Tribal Government CAL FIRE will enter into grant agreements with local, state, and federal public agencies; Native American tribes; universities; special districts; industrial and non-industrial private forest landowners; and non-profit organizations. Eligible Geographies: California Important Dates Application deadline The date (and time, where applicable) by which all applications must be submitted to the grantmaker. Time listed as “00:00” equates to midnight. 6/8/26 00:00 Expected award announcement The date on which the grantor expects to announce the recipient(s) of the grant. Fall 2026 Period of performance The length of time during which the grant money must be utilized. Funding Source: The funding source allocated to fund the grant. It may be either State or Federal (or a combination of both), and be tied to a specific piece of legislation, a proposition, or a bond number. State Funding Source Notes: Up to $65 million in Proposition 4 (2024) Wildfire and Forest Resilience funds is available to support landscape-scale Forest Health projects that meet the bond’s goals for restoring forests, reducing wildfire risk, and enhancing watershed and climate resilience Funding Method: The manner in which the grant funding will be delivered to the awardee. Funding methods include reimbursements (where the recipient spends out-of-pocket and is reimbursed by the grantor) and advances (where the recipient spends received grant funds directly). Advances & Reimbursement(s) Funding Method Notes: Payments will be made on a reimbursement basis (i.e., the grantee pays for services, products or supplies; invoices CAL FIRE for the same; and the State reimburses the grantee upon approval of the invoice). Advance payments may be considered for nonprofit organizations, local agencies, special districts (including RCDs), private forest landowners, and California Native American tribes.
