About this opportunity

A Cooperative Ecosystem Studies Unit (CESU) participating university will provide knowledge of atmospheric concentrations of air pollution to support informed decision-making by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM). The project coordinates and aligns research associated with assessing the impact of development of the nations oil and gas resources among several federal agencies. The CESU university will focus on locating and operating a very specialized air pollution monitor, the Brewer Spectrometer, in northwestern New Mexico to gather data for comparison with emerging monitoring technology deployed by the Department of Energy. The CESU University must possess and operate a Brewer spectrometer. The data gathered will enable the BLM to discern the impact of oil and gas development in the region. Data gathered will include ozone, nitrogen dioxide, sulfur dioxide and hydrocarbons to inform BLM management decisions related to oil and gas development in the Four Corners region.
