Charter School Facilities Incentive Grants Program

Purpose: The State Charter School Incentive Grant Program funds are applied toward a charter school’s annual costs of rent, lease, mortgage, debt service, or Proposition 39 pro-rata payments for facilities, or towards the costs of purchase, design, construction, and/or renovation of a new or existing facility. Description: In 2004, 2009, and 2014, the United States Department of Education approved grant awards to the Authority pursuant to the State Charter School Incentive Grant Program (Program), authorized under Title V, Part B, Subpart 1 of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act, as amended by the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001. The California School Finance Authority was recently awarded a $30 million grant award in Fall 2024. Per the Authority’s application to the Department of Education, the Authority is proposing three more funding rounds of the Program starting for the 2025-26 school year.   Eligibility Requirements Eligible Applicants: Nonprofit Public Agency Please refer to the Text of Regulations Eligible Geographies: Funds are available to charter schools operating in the State of California. Ongoing Period of performance The length of time during which the grant money must be utilized. 3 years Funding Details Total estimated available funding The total projected dollar amount of the grant. $30,000,000 Expected number of awards A single grant opportunity may represent one or many awards. Some grantors may know in advance the exact number of awards to be given. Others may indicate a range. Some may wish to and wait until the application period closes before determining how many awards to offer; in this case, a value of “Dependent” will display.
