About this opportunity

The purpose of this program is to improve the management capacity in government hospitals throughout Ethiopia in order to increase their ability to maximize the productivity of their resources and deliver higher quality services to their patients. The system of acute care delivery in Ethiopia, provided by the approximately 102 government hospitals, requires sustained attention. Funding for this funding opportunity announcement will support the implementation of the Ethiopia Hospital Management Initiative (EHMI). The EHMI represents a systems-based approach to improving the functioning and quality of government hospitals in Ethiopia and reflects a strong and successful collaboration among educational partners. The objective of EHMI will be achieved through the provision of technical support to government units within the Federal Ministry of Health (FMOH) and Regional/City Health Bureaus (RHBs). This support will enable them to monitor the functions and quality of government hospitals in Ethiopia. It will also create an educational degree program in hospital management to foster a pipeline of well-trained managers to sustain the functioning and quality of government hospitals in Ethiopia. The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Program will produce CEOs with Masters of Hospital and Healthcare Administration (MHA). The CEOs will help build management capacity in the areas of process improvement; overall leadership and team motivation; personnel management, including staff retention; supply management; plant and facility design and maintenance; financial management, revenue generation and budgeting; program planning and evaluation; regulatory affairs; and governmental interactions.
