Kindergarten through Twelfth Grade Energy Efficiency Program — KTEP

KTEP will provide zero-interest loans for energy upgrades and retrofits to increase energy efficiency, physical comfort, air quality, and resiliency of existing building infrastructure for K-12 schools in California. Examples of eligible projects include: Highly efficient lighting systems including daylighting integrating systems. Efficient electric heating ventilation, and air-conditioning (HVAC) equipment. Building envelope upgrades such as insulation, air sealing, and window film. Renewable distributed energy generation and energy storage, including battery and thermal storage. Electric vehicle charging infrastructure used to power public fleets. Load-shifting and demand management measures. Applicants must be local educational agencies (LEAs) in California, such as school districts, charter schools, county offices of education, and state special schools. The CEC will manage loan applications from LEAs on behalf of the state. The program is overseen and funded by the Department of Energy.
