Target submission dates:Mathematical Sciences Focused Research Groups proposals should be submitted to the MPS Mathematical Sciences Research Programs solicitation and identify the disciplinary program of interest. Target date for submissions is the Second Wednesday in September.While proposals are accepted anytime, proposers are highly encouraged to submit by the target date to ensure consideration during the corresponding panel review cycle.Program Information:NSF MPS supports projects submitted by collaborative groups proposing to employ innovative methods to solve specific, major challenges in mathematics and statistics. Proposals should target outstanding problems of significant complexity that require focused and synergistic group efforts.  Proposed collaborations can involve a significant effort within a single area or involve a synergetic effort across multiple areas. The solution of the proposed problems should have wide impacts in the mathematical and statistical sciences and potentially in other areas. Proposals addressing research challenges relevant to national priorities, such as critical and emerging technologies, are especially welcome. Each proposal should:-              Provide a focused plan for making significant progress on a research challenge of recognized importance to the mathematical and statistical sciences.-              Describe how substantial progress on the problems would have wide consequences for the mathematical and statistical sciences.-              Describe the creative aspects of the planned research.-              Explain why the success of the proposed research project depends in a crucial way upon a group effort by the collaborators. Below is a list of indicators suggesting that a focused research group proposal might be appropriate. This list is not exhaustive.Accumulated scientific results point to the possibility of a major, innovative breakthrough.A major recent breakthrough has created new possibilities for significant progress.New, interdisciplinary collaboration has revealed means to achieve accelerated progress through such cooperation, with corresponding advances and impacts in the mathematical and statistical sciences.In all cases, anticipated advances in other disciplines must be accompanied by significant anticipated advances and innovations in mathematical and statistical sciences.High-risk, high-reward projects are welcome. Proposed projects should be timely, limited in duration to up to three years and substantial in their scope and impact on the mathematical and statistical sciences.
