About this opportunity

This FOA is intended to support mental health and alcohol abuse services research in both public and private settings that examine rapidly evolving areas ( changes in service systems, health care financing, policy, etc) where opportunities for empirical study are, by their very natures, only available through expedited award of support. This FOA will utilize the R34 grant mechanism, and runs in parallel with a FOA of identical scientific scope that solicits applications under the traditional research project grant (R01, through PAR-05-150), and the small research grant (R03, through PAR-06-249) mechanisms. Relevant to this FOA, the NIMH R34 is intended to encourage research on innovative services research that require preliminary testing or development. The total amount awarded and the number of awards will depend upon the number, scientific merit, overall costs of the applications received, as well as on the funds available at the participating NIH Institutes/Centers.
