About the program Funding Opportunity Number: HRSA-27-098 Dates to Apply: 06/11/2026 to 09/01/2026 Bureau/Office: Bureau of Health Workforce Status: Open Apply Track Your Application Email Us The Medical Student Education (MSE) Program provides support to public medical schools in the top quartile of states with a projected primary care provider shortage to expand or support education for medical students preparing to become physicians. Who can apply To determine eligibility, HRSA uses the National Center for Health Workforce Analysis (NCHWA) projections1 through 2038, which indicate there are 41 states with a projected shortage of primary care physicians. The top quartile of states with projected shortages of primary care physicians include 12 states: Utah. HRSA has identified accredited public, osteopathic and allopathic medical schools in the eligible states using the Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation (COCA) and Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME). Entities with provisional or preliminary accreditation may apply if you meet the eligibility criteria and accreditation documentation requirements from LCME or COCA. Excluding schools with active MSE grants, Appendix A lists the 25 public medical schools in six states that appear eligible for this funding opportunity.Note: Grantees currently receiving MSE funding are not eligible to apply for this notice of funding opportunity.
