About this opportunity

Running a farm takes constant attention to day-to-day problem solving. It can be difficult to find the time to step back, evaluate what is working, and plan for stronger markets. This opportunity is designed to support that important planning work and help growers: Identify new sales opportunities Better understand customers and target markets Strengthen branding and messaging Evaluate current marketing efforts Set measurable business goals Build a roadmap for future growth Strategic planning and the ongoing evaluation of sales and marketing are essential executive functions that directly influence the profitability and long-term success of any business. Yet for small farm operators, the day-to-day demands of logistics often leave little time for this critical work. Through the USDA Advancing Markets for Producers grant, the North Valley Food Hub at CSU Chico's Center for Regenerative Agriculture is working to address that gap by incentivizing growers to recognize and invest in the expertise required for thoughtful sales and marketing planning, so they can make stronger business decisions and build more profitable, resilient operations. The program is designed to be manageable for busy growers, but the more you put into the process, the more you will get out of it! Phase 1 includes a guided self-assessment that helps you evaluate your current marketing efforts and business goals. Thoughtful and considered input will set you up for successful planning! Phase 2 involves developing a customized Marketing Advancement Plan using a provided template and support materials. The results of your self-assessment will help guide how you set priorities and goals. Taking time to review support materials will expand your understanding of marketing strategies and the resources available to help you succeed. The time commitment will vary by operation, but the program is structured to help you work through the process step-by-step and will save your progress as you go.
