Currently, about 80 percent of buildings across the State were constructed before energy codes emerged in the 1970s and utilize the burning of fossil fuels for space heating and hot water. established companies are working on innovative business models and technology to enable building electrification, lowering buildings’ emissions and energy use, or intelligent energy management but they need help getting their innovations to market. The funding opportunities from the End-Use Energy Innovation program are often focused on accelerating commercialization of innovative buildings solutions through product development and demonstrations to enable electrification and decarbonization of buildings. NextGen Buildings Innovation Challenge (PON 3519) This program supported the advancement of innovative building technologies for clean air conditioning (HVAC) systems, thermal storage, building envelopes, and intelligent building systems in New York State. Program Opportunity Notice (PON) 3519 awarded $23 million in funding to 24 projects via a competitive process in the most recent rounds. Funding shown is for the total award amount. Funding is contracted in stages for each project.
