About this opportunity

Each of six Interpretation and Resource Management interns will work directly with the National Park staff to learn aspects of operations at New River Gorge National River (NERI), Gauley River National Recreation Area (GARI), and Bluestone National Scenic River (BLUE). The interns will learn about complex natural and cultural resources in the parks through interactive experiences and work assignments. They will learn about resource challenges, such as hemlock and ash tree infestations, exotic invasive vegetation management, amphibian surveys to study the effects of insecticides, bat population decline, water pollution and data organization. Also, interns will be directly involved with sharing information and educating the public. Interns will participate in training including park and NPS Mission orientation, CPR and first aid, and training in the skills of performing surveys, application of pesticides, software programs, and other applications specific to each position.
